Quay Valley Green Community

Quay Valley, California – Quay Valley is a completely self-sustaining green town of 150,000 residents located in California’s Great Central Valley. While preserving the environment around Quay Valley, the town combines the benefits of new urbanism with the best qualities of the charming nearby rural towns.
Members of the Quay Valley planning team have created a 50-acre research ranch to test various techniques for making Quay Valley as sustainable as possible. Examples of experiments in the works include organic farming, renewable solar energy, water reclamation and more. To get a better understanding of water quality, seepage, and other water issues, the planning team even built a three acre lake and stocked the lake with various native species of fish with the help from the California Department of Fish and Game.
To help Quay Valley obtain its ultimate goal of sustainability, plenty of time and other resources have gone toward organic farming. Miles of irrigation ditches have been built and thousands of acres of land have already been planted with organic wheat. The soil is regularly tested to ensure the time and effort put into the farming will continue to pay off. Orchards with nut trees, stone fruit and citrus trees are planned for the future; buffalo and horses have been brought in to graze on the native grasses in the pastures.
Quay Valley wants to ensure its residents are living a healthy and high quality life; members of the community know that education is the key to ensuring that happens. A substantial effort is put toward making sustainability part of the community’s culture and mindset. Quay Valley hopes to teach its residents the benefits of green techniques for both the present and in the future.
