Green In Georgia!
In recent years, the world has been undergoing a “green revolution” – and it’s about time. For too many years, people were careless about how they used the earth’s natural resources, and now there’s a serious danger of exhausting them completely. For that reason, more and more people are starting to use concepts of sustainability to build green communities. It’s about more than just taking the bus to work or making sure to recycle – eco friendly communities are about changing the way that we used the resources available to us.
Citizens of Georgia have been active in building green communities and incorporating green thinking into their lives. You may think that living green requires moving into a new homes that’s built with the principles of green communities in mind, but that is simply not the case. There are many ways that everyday Georgians can incorporate green thinking into their lives.
Many easy green solutions have to do with the way that people use energy. For instance, consider the modern convenience of clothes dryers. While they do make drying much faster and easier, they are a big energy drain. Generating as much heat as driers do requires a lot of electricity, which not only is expensive for the individual, it also produces more pollution from power plants. A simple way to counteract this, at least in dryer seasons, is to use a clothesline instead.
Even if it’s too wet to use the sun to dry clothes, there are other ways to conserve energy when you must use a dryer. For instance, make sure that you clean your lint trap frequently. Failure to do so can result in the drying cycle taking much longer than it should, meaning more energy use. Similarly, overloading the dryer can mean having to run a second cycle, using a ton more energy. You can also find dryers that have built-in moisture detectors that will stop as soon as your clothes are dry, preventing excess energy waste.
That’s how easy it can be to promote the concepts of green communities in Georgia or anywhere else in the world. However, for those committed to making a bigger change toward green living, there are many other options. While it may be impossible to bring a home up to the standards set forth in the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certifications, every little bit counts.
One option to consider is solar hot water heating. Standard hot water heating is a very expensive process that is a significant portion of any home’s energy usage. If you want to lessen your negative impact on the environment in order to better live up to the standards of sustainable communities, a solar water heater is a great solution. Instead of polluting the air through excess energy use, you can use the natural heat of the sun to heat water for your home.
This article outlines just a couple of the basic changes that a Georgia resident or anyone in the country can utilize to maintain the standards of eco friendly communities. It’s up to everyone to take the steps, both big and small, to help preserve the environment.
