Starting at home, we can save both money and resources. Take for example something as simple as ‘paper towels.’
Over the years I’ve gotten into the habit of buying paper towels for everything around the house from cleaning to drying hands. Sanitary and easy!
Well, recently I added up how much I spent a year on them and was shocked to learn it was over $500.00.
Now, to some this may seem like a small thing but it’s not. Paper towels are just one item that has a great impact on our pocket books and a darker side for the environment.
If we think ‘trees’ and deforestation we may change our tune.
Deforestation depletes precious natural resources for many living things dependant on these forests and is one of the causes of global warming.
Needless to say, I’ve gone back to the old fashion way of cleaning and drying my hands, a cotton towel.
It works wonderfully and it’s sanitary, each family member has their own personal towel and it’s washed with the rest of the laundry. Easy!
Here’s a great link that provides items to help us ‘Get Smart’ at home and supports a sustainable future for our children and the planet.
As we face effects of a recession and maybe a financial crisis it’s time for us to ‘Get Smart’ to buy only what we need.

Paper towels is a nice example of some products we use in excess and how we can modify our habits to be more eco-friendly, and save money at the same time!

In a new world, no longer controlled by the status quo, we will grow huge annually renewable fields of hemp (not dope, silly!) on semi arable lands not now in use. We will fertilize our hemp with sewage, and turn it into bio-diesel and paper for paper towels. This paper is of much higher quality than wood-based paper, and we will recycle all of it, many times! we will also make ultra light and durable parts for our new carbon fiber and polymer composite cars, but that’s another story. The bio-diesel will be burnt in newly designed engines that take advantage of its superior properties. They will be designed for burning bio-diesel efficiently, developed and manufactured in China, a progressive country, not “locked in the 1930’s GM technologies and politics” like the U.S.A. The paper towels will be of such quality and strength as to compare to cloth towels and will be totally recyclable, and from sustainable sources, as to never run out of them. In fact, the hemp crops will reduce global warming by absorbing CO2! a good thing! Pray nightly for a new world! We have the knowledge, the technology and good reasons, we need political organization, a leader, and the great depression falling on us as we speak will provide the motivation!

After you see something that is note-worthy one finds it all over.
Yesterday I had a lunch meeting at an Applebee’s and in the rest room they have a sign that says, “We save 8 trees a week by using electric hand drier.

I have switched to organic hemp napkins…use and wash with the rest of the loads. Couldn’t be easier.
